BENZOPYRENE, AN AIR POLLUTANT OF SERIOUS
CONCERN
During the construction of several extensions on its site, the Damy
cooperage wished to install a new boiler. This extension was also
intended to enable the company to welcome its customers in healthy
conditions. The risk in the cooperage sector, especially for the coopers
in charge of the boiler, is benzopyrene, a pollutant released by the
combustion of wood.
The company called on NEU-JKF Wood Industry to install a system to
guarantee the safety of its operators while providing them with good
working conditions.
A SYSTEM THAT PROTECTS OPERATORS WHILE
PROVIDING WORKING COMFORT
The first step was to offer full support in determining the need. This
step enables the client to be advised on the most suitable ventilation
solution.
During the burning process, the coopers regularly heat the wood,
which generates smoke and steam. The installed system extracts
the fumes and vapours efficiently. On the other hand, the extracted
air is compensated by fresh air.
The fumes are extracted from 3 hoods (1 for pre-heating, 1 for
bending, 1 for heating) connected to extractors placed on the roof (5
extractors in total).
40,000m3/h of air is reintroduced, partly through the gutters and partly through textile ducts.
This operation, the dynamic compensation via channels, guarantees working comfort for the operators. The originality of
the solution lies in the fact that the air compensation system is equipped with an air cooling system that can be activated
in case of very high temperatures. The system thus protects the operators while guaranteeing them working comfort.
